RIYADH: Following unconfirmed reports of a Saudi studying at a New Delhi university being involved in a hit-and-run accident, the Saudi Higher Education Ministry warned it would cancel scholarships of Saudi students who are involved in legal troubles abroad, Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.
There were unconfirmed reporters that some Saudi students at Jamia Hamdard University in New Delhi were attacked by a mob after a Saudi student was involved in a hit-and run incident.
However, there have been no statements from the university indicating that any students have been involved in any accidents.
The rumor, however, was enough for the Saudi ministry to underscore its insistence that Saudi students on government scholarships avoid any legal troubles in the countries where they are studying.
The official also denied complaints by Saudi students in India that the ministry was negligent to their problems with Indian students in the Hamdard University.
He added that if any report from the cultural attaché confirms of students wrongdoing during their period of study, action would be taken against them in line with the statutes.
