JEDDAH: The mother of three children who died after being poisoned in Madinah and her youngest daughter have been brought to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah to receive advanced medical help.
The woman, who is pregnant, and her one-year-old daughter, Wafa, were brought to Jeddah from Madinah’s Maternity and Children’s Hospital on Sunday following orders from Crown Prince Sultan.
The woman’s husband, Khaled Husain, a Pakistani expatriate, said Wafa is stable and that he has received a lot of support from members of the public.
“The doctors are carrying out further tests on my wife to help her recover. I’ve been left on my own now. I’m forced to go back and forth between my daughter and wife,” he said, adding that he has nowhere to stay in Jeddah.
“What worries me at this stage is the health of my daughter and wife... I am a victim who does not know who to consult or where to go,” said Husain, who works for a pastry company.
Health officials said blood tests indicate that Husain’s three children — Hisham, Aisha and Sami — died of a high concentration of insecticide at the family’s home. Husain, however, insists this is untrue and that his family was poisoned after eating a takeout from a local restaurant.
He told Arab News that he still has not received the bodies of his dead children, which are being kept at the Al-Miqat Hospital in Madinah. “They (the Health Affairs in Madinah) told me that the procedures are not yet complete. They have not received a full medical report and so we can’t bury the bodies,” he said.
Husain said his children started showing symptoms of sickness immediately after eating the food. “The condition of my five-year-old son, Hisham, was very critical so I took him to the ER at the Ansar Hospital,” said Husain. “While there, my wife called and told me that our daughter Aisha was facing the same problems.”
