JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah conveyed his condolences to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria for the victims of Tuesday’s suicide bomb attack, Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday.
“I learned with deep pain about the blast that left in its wake dead and wounded in a brotherly country,” the king said in his statement to the president. “I offer condolences on my behalf and on behalf of the people and government of Saudi Arabia to you and the families of the victims.”
Forty-three people were killed and 45 wounded when a suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives outside a police academy at Issers, 60 km east of Algiers. The victims were candidates waiting to take an examination. It was the deadliest attack this year in Algeria and worse than the December 2007 attacks in Algiers against government and United Nations buildings, which killed 41 people and injured dozens.
