Saudi who died in Lanka buried in Jeddah

RIYADH: The 28-year-old Saudi man, who died of heart attack in Sri Lanka on Friday, was buried on Tuesday evening in Jeddah soon after his body arrived from Colombo.

The body of Thameer Saeed Al-Zahrani arrived at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah by SriLankan Airlines flight UL 281 on Tuesday afternoon. Saeed Yahya Al- Zahrani, father of the deceased received the body from the airport authorities, SriLankan Airlines Manager Chintaka Bandara said yesterday.

Thameer Al-Zahrani died while being taken to Negombo Base Hospital from the airport. He was on a Saudia flight which made an emergency landing in Colombo at 8:33 p.m. on Friday after he complained of severe chest pains.

Al-Zahrani had gone to Jakarta for a holiday with two of his friends. After the emergency landing, Al-Zahrani’s two friends stayed in Colombo and accompanied the body back to Jeddah.

Saudi Ambassador in Colombo Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman Al-Jammaz told Arab News that the Sri Lankan government had assisted the mission in obtaining clearance for the repatriation of the body within 24 hours of the post-mortem.

The ambassador said that the deceased had been an employee of the Ministry of Interior. The embassy mission bore the costs of repatriation and the hotel accommodation given to the friends of the dead man.
