DUBAI: An official with Dubai civil defense said a fire broke out in a luxury hotel due to open soon on the man-made Palm Island off the United Arab Emirates Gulf coast.
The official says firefighters battled flames in the lobby of a five-star Atlantis hotel on the artificial island, which was built in a shape of a palm tree. The cause is not yet known. The Atlantis is set to open later this month and currently has no guests in it. The official said workers had been evacuated and that he’s not aware of any casualties. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
The Atlantis is host to a spectacular water park, an open-air aquarium and a dolphinarium.
