MAKKAH: The Civil Defense in Makkah says it is prepared to respond quickly to any mishap that takes place during Ramadan.

“The Civil Defense has made well-studied plans to meet any type of emergency in Makkah. There is no shortage of firefighters. Around 4,200 Civil Defense personnel are being kept battle-ready equipped with the latest devices for firefighting and rescue operations during the month of Ramadan,” Director General of Civil Defense Lt. Gen. Saad Al-Tuwaijri told Arab News yesterday at the sidelines of a meeting of Civil Defense authorities.

Al-Tuwaijri added that the directorate has been making continuous efforts to upgrade its performance with regular training exercises at the Institute of Civil Defense and the Naif Academy. Several officials have been sent to various institutes in the United States and Europe for training, the director general added.

“Personnel of all ranks are selected for training so that they become capable of handling any situation including rescue or firefighting operations,” the director general said. He added that special small-sized vehicles have been made available to undertake operations at mountainous areas in Makkah where roads are narrow and inaccesible to large vehicles.

Maj. Gen. Adel Zamzami, director of Civil Defense in Makkah province, and Col. Jameel Arbaeen, director of Civil Defense in Makkah city, also attended the meeting.
