JIZAN: Four people were killed and four others seriously injured when two cars collided yesterday on the Samtah-Tawwal highway in the southern province of Jizan.

Col. Obaid Al-Khammash, assistant director of Jizan police, said one of the cars was driven by a Saudi who was carrying six unidentified passengers while the other was driven by a Yemeni qat smuggler.

“Both cars were speeding. The accident took place when one of them tried to overtake the other,” he added.

He said the four fatalities included two Saudis and two Yemenis.

“The injured were taken to Samtah General Hospital, but two of them were transferred to King Fahd Central Hospital in Jizan,” he said, adding that all four remain in critical condition.
