JEDDAH: K.M. Abdul Ahad Thangal, a leader of Indian Jamaat-e-Islami in the state of Kerala, has urged different Muslim groups to focus their attention on spreading the message of Islam and compete with one another in activities that are essential for the community’s development.
“We have to make joint efforts to take the message of Islam to greater number of people using modern information technology and other facilities,” Thangal told Arab News. He expressed his delight over the increasing number of people entering the fold of Islam, especially in Western countries.
Thangal, who was in the Kingdom to perform Umrah, was optimistic about the growing prospects of Islamic movements across the world. “We see Islamic parties gaining more popularity in Muslim countries, sweeping general elections. This gives us hope about a bright future,” he added.
A former vice president and general secretary of Jamaat in Kerala, Thangal is the publisher of Prabhodanam and Aramam magazines and chairman of Shantapuram Islamic Mission Trust in Perinthalmanna and Jamiyyathul Mustharshideen Charitable Trust (JMCT) in Edayur in the state’s Malappuram district.
The JMCT, which runs a number of educational and vocational institutions, intends to establish a higher secondary school, a hostel for girls and a Qur’an memorization school, he said.
