JEDDAH: Mansour Abdul Ghaffar, chairman of the Yanbu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (YCCI) and a member of the Shoura Council who died in Riyadh on Sunday, was buried at the Hawwah Cemetery in Jeddah after funeral prayers at the Juffali Mosque.
Abdul Ghaffar, who made valuable contributions as an economist, educationist and writer, was born in Yanbu in Madinah province. He had his school education in various Saudi cities and studied business administration in the United States. He had been a Shoura Council member since 1999. Besides being the chairman of the YCCI, he was the head of several companies in the Kingdom and abroad and served on the boards of various socio-economic bodies.
He also served as the director general of the Zakah and Income Tax Department, head of the Tabuk Education Administration and as the assistant general manager of Saudi Customs.
“Abdul Ghaffar had worked hard to develop Yanbu into a great economic city by attracting huge investments and upgrading its utilities ever since he became the chairman of the YCCI,” Muhammad Al-Khatib, a Yanbu-based businessman, told Arab News.
Muhammad Al-Homaid, a judge at the Court of Grievances, said, “Abdul Ghaffar’s death is, no doubt, an irreparable loss not only to Yanbu but to the entire Kingdom as he had been actively contributing to cultural, educational and economic fields.”
Abdul Ghaffar is survived by his wife and several children.
