NEW DELHI: Indian Parliament Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has constituted a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Saudi Arabia. Former Civil Aviation Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain has been appointed president of the group, which also includes A.H. Khan and Rajeev Chandrashekhar as vice presidents.
The group has been formed to maintain political, economic, social and cultural contacts between the two countries. It will also create favorable conditions for continuous development of intra-parliamentary contacts between the two friendly nations.
Other members of the group are Furqan Ansari, J.M. Haroon Rashid, Srichand Kriplani, Subhash Deshmukh, Rakesh Singh, Parsuram Majhi, Atiq Ahmad, Gridhari Yadav, Muqeem Ahmad, E. Ponnusawamy and Vanlalzawma from the lower house of Parliament.
Rashid Alvi, Chowdhry Mohammed Aslam, Najma Heptullah, Amir Alam Khan, A. Elavarasan and Dr. Bimal Jalan have been included in the group from the upper house.
