MADINAH: According to a Haj Committee report, 804,074 pilgrims have visited Madinah since the beginning of the Haj season to pay homage to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and offer prayers at the Holy Mosque.
The report said there has been a 4 percent increase in pilgrims compared to the same period last year. It also said that 639,932 pilgrims had left Madinah for Makkah and that there were currently 164,022 pilgrims in Madinah, an 11 percent increase compared to last year.
Indians make up the largest number of pilgrims who have visited Madinah so far (27,248), followed by Pakistanis (19,505) and Egyptians (12,517).
Meanwhile, 88 Omani pilgrims, suffering from food poisoning, were taken to Al-Ansar Hospital and Uhd Hospital in Madinah yesterday after taking food from a local restaurant. Informed sources said most of the pilgrims have left hospital after receiving necessary treatment.
As of Sunday, 9,575 pilgrims received treatment at health care centers in the city. Red Crescent ambulances transferred 154 sick pilgrims to the city’s hospitals, according to the authorities.
