MAKKAH: Representatives from 41 government organizations attended a meeting here yesterday to discuss preparations for the “Makkah Without Crime” project that is to start in April.
The meeting was held at the office of Gen. Turki bin Ibrahim Al-Qinawi, director of Makkah police.
Maj. Abdul Muhsin Al-Mayman, spokesman for the city’s police, said Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal is giving top priority to the project. “A series of meetings have been held in the past months to finalize the project. Plans include spreading awareness among residents, pilgrims and visitors to combat crime and increase security,” he said.
Al-Mayman said studies were undertaken by a number of government and private institutions, including Umm Al-Qura University, to execute the project, which will continue around the year. “All government departments and various sectors of society are fully supporting the project to keep the religious capital a crime free city,” he added.
