JEDDAH: A Senegalese expatriate suspected of murdering a compatriot who was his roommate has been arrested in Jeddah.
“The suspect and the victim were friends and shared a room in Briman district of Jeddah,” Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police, said yesterday. “The two men ran an illegal telephone booth from the apartment. Police were notified of the murder by customers who found the body at the apartment,” he said.
Al-Juaid said police inspected the crime scene and gathered forensic evidence. “Suspicions fell on his roommate who was missing. He was caught a short while later in one of Jeddah’s squalid neighborhoods,” he said.
The man initially claimed that a gang of six robbers attacked them in their apartment and stabbed his roommate while he escaped unhurt. “He, however, broke down and admitted to killing his friend when faced with solid evidence. He said he killed his roommate after financial differences,” Al-Juaid said.
