JEDDAH: Saudi women have been offering training in the art of creative cooking for health, high nutrition and finger-licking flavors in Jeddah.

Seen at some of the city’s major malls, these chefs train housewives even on how to deal with emergencies such as unannounced guests.

The trainers for the interactive experience are skilled chefs who have served as advisers to international food companies and instructors at culinary arts academies.

“We are focusing on housewives who want to develop for their families a taste for happy moments at the dining table,” said Maha Al-Mojaddidi, associate marketing manager at Goody Kitchen, which is organizing the training program.

“The idea is to bring out the creative chef so as to conjure up the most delicious dishes without compromising on the health benefits,” Al-Mojaddidi added.

Leading the chefs are Lamia Gahwaji and her assistant chef Alaa Al-Amoudi who share innovative cooking ideas and engage participants in live interactive sessions.

“I have been looking forward to some such program; I wish to acquire skills in cooking tasteful dishes,” said Sara Abdul Rahman, a young housewife. “I never tried my hand at cooking until I got married.”

The chefs demonstrate the art of creative cooking using recipes of global, local and traditional dishes, and offer tips on using various kitchen tools. They present precooked dishes, and reveal the secrets of garnishing and combining unusual flavors.
