RIYADH: A Palestinian child who was brought to the Kingdom with severe eye injuries has lost both his eyes despite efforts made by doctors at Riyadh’s King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital.

Louay Subih, 13, who sustained heavy injuries in both his eyes as a result of a missile attack on his house by Israeli invaders, underwent cosmetic surgery to remove his infected eyeballs in preparation for replacement with artificial eyes. The child is in stable condition.

“The prosthetic eyes will be fixed six weeks following the surgery,” said Abdul-Elah Al-Towerqi, the hospital’s executive director.

Sixty victims of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza have been brought to the Kingdom by Medevac planes, according to the Ministry of Health. The wounded were brought from Egypt’s Areesh airport to Riyadh Air Base from where they were taken to different hospitals in the capital according to the nature of treatment required.

“The patients are spread out in all the leading specialist hospitals,” said a source at the Ministry of Health who does not want to be named.

He pointed out that most of these patients have recovered now and are in sound health except for a few who are still not out of danger.

The source said that on a directive from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah the ministry has offered room and board for parents or guardians accompanying the wounded.

On recovery, the patients together with their guardians will be given an opportunity to perform Umrah prior to their departure home, he said.
