RIYADH: The King Abdul Aziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted (Mawhiba) is calling on Saudi inventors to participate in the 37th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva.

The exhibition, which is organized by Swiss authorities and scheduled to take place from April 1 to 5 in Palexpo, Geneva, is the world’s largest event of its kind. The exhibition will host over 700 exhibitors and 1,000 inventions from 45 countries. Last year it welcomed 72,000 visitors.

Khalid Al-Sabti, general secretary of Mawhiba, said the organization participates in such events to help Saudi inventors benefit from the experiences of other inventors and widen their horizons by being exposed to other cultures and sources of knowledge.

“One of Mawhiba’s ultimate goals is to encourage the knowledge-seeking spirit among the Kingdom’s thinkers,” he said. “International exhibitions are the windows through which Saudi experts and inventors can view the outer world, and promote their creations and ideas to businessmen and companies that can market them later,” he added.

The Geneva exhibition aims to bring together businessmen, companies, inventors and their ideas. “Saudi Inventors visiting and participating in events such as this would be able to meet manufacturers who can develop their ideas and distributors who can help market them,” Al-Sabti said.

Inventors wanting to participate through Mawhiba should either be Saudi or represent a Saudi establishment, their inventions should be registered with a Saudi or international organization, and should not have been showcased at any other previous exhibition or competition.

Mawhiba will provide successful participants with air tickets, hotel accommodation and stipends while in Geneva. The organization has taken many talented Saudis to other international exhibitions with many winning international prizes. Interested individuals can submit their applications online via Mawhiba’s website — www.mawhiba.org.sa — before Jan. 30.
