RIYADH: As the country’s Shoura Council was debating amendments to electricity regulations, a strange thing happened: The power went out. According to yesterday’s Al-Madinah newspaper, lights went dark for about 16 minutes during the discussion about electricity. It added that the Council’s members were surprised but not deterred — not even a little creeped out — by what had happened.

Man loses fiancee over traffic violation

TUNNOUMA: A traffic police officer in this city in the southern Asir province refused to marry his daughter to a young man who had committed traffic violations, the local media reported yesterday. The newspaper said the officer was in his office when a soldier brought the fiancé of his daughter to the police station for committing an undisclosed traffic violation. The officer strongly reprimanded the fiancé for his wrongdoing and told him that his engagement to his daughter was over. The couple was to get married this summer.
