JEDDAH: A Saudi citizen has filed a lawsuit against the Justice Ministry demanding the reimbursement of SR8 million for the cost of a home he purchased in Makkah that was later taken from him after a court ruled in favor of people claiming ownership of it.
The citizen, identified by his initials A.H., told Arab News that the home in the city’s Aziziyah district he bought five years ago was taken from him two years ago.
According to the complaint filed with the Court of Grievances, the real estate office only obtained permission to sell the inherited home from four of six people listed on the deed.
“Mistakenly, the notary public considered all the owners to be unanimous in their authorization for selling while two of them made clear that they were not. This mistake cost me dearly,” he said.
The two who objected then filed to reclaim the home. The court in Makkah ruled in their favor, but also ordered the real estate office to reimburse the homebuyer.
The buyer said he has been trying for two years to get the real estate office to reimburse his money to no avail, so he decided to complain against the Ministry of Justice for not doing more to enforce the Makkah court ruling requiring the company to refund him money.
“My numerous appeals and objections have succeeded neither in getting my house back nor the money that I paid. So I finally resorted to the Court of Grievances in Jeddah with the hope to find a listening ear,” he said.
