PUNE: The Shiv Sena, which has strengthened its base in most assembly segments of Jalna Lok Sabha seat, has now staked its claim on this parliamentary seat much to the chagrin of its ally, Bharatiya Janata Party, which has the magnificent score of 6/9 (six out of nine) polls held here since 1977.

Similarly, local National Congress Party leaders too are demanding that the Congress should hand over this seat to the NCP in view of its increased strength here.

Jalna is one of the most important markets in Marathwada. After the delimitation process, Jalna Lok Sabha seat has now turned more urban. Some parts of the neighboring Aurangabad districts like Phulambri assembly segment and Paithan town are now added to this parliamentary seat.

Traditionally, the Congress has retained its political control over the cooperative sugar factories and cooperative banks in Jalna district. Nonetheless, on account of caste equations, the BJP has maintained its supremacy in the constituency.

In another development, Nobel laureate professor Robert Autmann said here last evening that “Education is the key to usher peace between Palestinian Arabs and Jews. From an early age, Palestinian Arab children are taught that it’s honorable and wonderful to blow yourself up and that Jews are evil. This has to change, but I see very little hope in the near future. Acceptance for us has to be forthcoming.” He was addressing reporters after the seventh convocation ceremony of the 2006-2008 batches of students of the International School of Business and Media.
