MUMBAI: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who has been ill for quite some time, was admitted to Leelavati Hospital yesterday. According to party sources, Thackeray was admitted for routine medical checkup. Nothing abnormal was detected in the tests and his condition is stable, doctors said.
Sena office-bearers said Thackeray intends to campaign for party candidates during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and therefore decided to go for a medical checkup before the poll campaign starts.
Meanwhile, alliance between Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party appears to be on the rocks after senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani was refused a meeting with Thackeray during his visit to Mumbai on Tuesday.
The BJP, which has so far denied that Advani was not allowed to meet Thackeray, admitted yesterday that Advani could not meet Thackeray because the latter was asleep when the request for a meeting was made. Advani and Thackeray would meet shortly and that relations between Sena and the BJP were not strained as being reported in the media, said BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar.
