MAKKAH: Health officials in Makkah yesterday raided and shuttered a medical complex for obesity treatment run by unlicensed doctors who claimed to be consultant doctors in various specializations.

“An X-ray department without qualified technicians, a weight reduction clinic without licensed dieticians and other specialized clinics without qualified doctors operated at the illegal medical complex,” said Muhammad Al-Mahmadi, director of medical and pharmacy licensing in Makkah.

“After closing the facility, officials removed billboards advertising services available at the medical facility at various locations in the city,” he said.

Al-Mahmadi said the health officials visited the facility following a complaint from a woman that the quality of services offered at the center, located in Aziziah district, was unacceptably low.
