Terry Evans is not just the most active head of the British Trade Office in the Eastern Province but also one of those rare woman that you meet and later realize that you have met a sincere power.

As my faithful readers know by now, I love watching life unfold its goodies and follies and as I move along its path, I collect and study all things that pass before me. Humans are one of the things that I like to observe and it never fails to amaze me how different and yet alike they are under certain circumstances.

Terry is someone who keeps you in her circle even when she is away — and her friendship is so unusual in its sincerity and maturity that you feel her presence even when you are not in contact. I knew from the start — when we shared a few holes at a golf course in Bahrain a few years so that even though I wasn’t Tiger Woods — she was exceptional.

It all reminded me of when I was at Saint Christopher’s in Bahrain and how we were taught to write letters of gratitude to our parents and friends. So to you, Terry, a flower-scented English farewell letter for my best friend. Bon Voyage.

Dear Nadia,

I have just arrived from Egypt to work in Riyadh. In my resume I stated that my English was poor but the company agreed to accept me. Now they advise me to take some courses in both written and spoken English. I will pay for the courses as they will help me in my job. I have asked many people to recommend a place to study English but I would like to know what you advise. Many thanks.

Adel, Cairo

Dear Adel,

There are many good schools and institutes for teaching English in the Kingdom but my advice is to go to the British Council. They have branches in all the major cities and have been teaching English for many, many years.

Good luck!
