RIYADH: A 10-day Indonesian food and cultural festival featuring a range of traditional cuisine besides Indonesian culture and heritage, will begin today at Al-Faisaliah Hotel here.
The festival will be followed by several events in both Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, Indonesian diplomats said yesterday. A marine exhibition called “Deep Indonesia,” will be held from March 27 to 29, said Irvan Fachrizal, a spokesman for the Indonesian Embassy.
The press briefing was attended by Minister Counselor Abdul Rachman Dudung.
Several events are scheduled for tourists in Indonesia this year to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Garuda Indonesia, the country’s national carrier.
Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom Salim Segaf Al-Jufri will open the festival.
Dances featuring Indonesian school students and Rosewood staff will also take place during the opening ceremony.
Muhammad Harry Khairuddin, Garuda Indonesia’s marketing and sales manager, said, “The festival is expected to generate high levels of interest from both the local and expatriate community, and will provide guests with a spectacular culinary and cultural experience.”
Wolfgang Pachler, Al-Faisaliah’s managing director, said the event would take place at La Brasserie restaurant. “Everyone who joins the culinary and cultural extravaganza will be given a chance to encounter Indonesia firsthand, and a three-night stay in Bali will also be raffled off,” he said.
On the occasion, Garuda has announced a promotional fare of SR2,617 to Jakarta.
