MANAMA: Health authorities are expecting more Saudi manufactured drugs to enter the Bahraini market because of increased production and flexible price in the region.

Mohammed Nasser, director of the Drug Control Section at the Ministry of Health said: “The total number of registered Saudi drugs in our market is about six percent. This primarily includes medicines such as antibiotics, painkillers and other key drugs.”

The official said Saudi pharmaceutical industries were increasingly applying for centrally issued licenses to distribute their products in the region.

“With this trend, we expect more Saudi manufactured drugs to be introduced in our market,” Nasser said.

Earlier this month, pharmacies across the island slashed the rates of all UK-manufactured drugs, following the sharp fall in the value of pound sterling compared with Bahraini dinar.

The director said there was a strong probability that prices of drugs imported from other countries to Bahrain may also reduce depending on market fluctuations.
