JEDDAH: Pakistani expatriates in Saudi Arabia celebrated their country’s national day with simplicity, zeal and fervor yesterday. The day started with flag hoisting ceremonies at the Embassy of Pakistan in Riyadh and at the residence of the consul general in Jeddah.
Acting Pakistani Ambassador Sarfaraz A. Khanzada unfurled the national flag in Riyadh and read out the messages from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. “Pakistan has been put on the path of democracy and as per the president’s message let us dedicate ourselves to the upholding of judiciary as the future of our country depends on the rule of law,” Khanzada said.
In Jeddah, Consul General Zaigham Uddin Azam performed the flag hoisting ceremony. Earlier, verses from the Qur’an were recited. Members of the community, especially women and children, and officials of the consulate, Pakistan International School, and Haj Directorate, were among those present.
Vice Consul Murad Ali read out messages of the president and prime minister.
