IN psychology, a healthy attitude emerges only if one is safely attached to a real rock; then it explains what any body’s rock is and how vital and important that rock is to the human psyche and well-being.

In many societies the rock is the family, whether extended or nuclear; and in others it is society and its social structure. In some, it is financial safety and security.

But as with anything worldly, these rocks are fine as long as they exist in a human sphere but what if the family perishes (God forbid) or society is sick in the sense of having to deal with poverty, gangs, wars etc.

And finally, money plays its part as the security that humans look at as the major rock — or the rock. We have lived a long time believing that it was the Right Rock.

I believe that we all have to agree that a successful rock is something that must stay with us and last. I cannot find a better rock than oneself.

If we depend on our inner rock, we learn the right signals so look for yours and hold on to it as it is the only one you can really depend upon and it will also last for your whole life.

Dear Nadia

I am a collector of stones and seashells. I live in Ha’il in the north of Saudi Arabia. There are many stones of different shapes and origins but I have been surprised to find many small seashells in the desert. I have also found sharks’ teeth. Can you explain?

Ali, Turkey

Dear Ali

Millions of years ago, the whole Arabian Peninsula was under the sea. Enjoy your collection; you might find one day that is valuable.
