JEDDAH: The Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) is planning to set up tourism information touch-screen interactive machines by 2009 in 14 areas around the Kingdom, according to Ghassan Al-Bakri, head of the SCTA’s tourism programs and products
“The machines are ready. It is just a matter of signing agreements and choosing locations,” Al-Bakri told Arab News yesterday.
He said some of the units have been distributed in several locations around Jeddah and other cities. These units will be installed at airports, shopping malls and other strategically important locations.
They will provide essential information in both Arabic and English, including phone numbers and locations of hotels, transport companies, tour operators, museums, entertainment and historical sites. Users can also receive data via Bluetooth.
King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah has an SCTA center, which distributes leaflets containing tourism information. The SCTA has printed and distributed more than 20 million tourism information leaflets around the Kingdom before the introduction of the new unit, according to Ibrahim Al-Kraidah, SCTA’s domestic marketing manager.
