ARAR: A judge in Arar, northern Saudi Arabia, ordered four students — accused of vandalizing their school equipment — to clean their school as punishment for three hours a week for a month, a local newspaper reported. The judge ordered the students to carry out the punishments after school hours to avoid embarrassing them in front of their peers. He said that this is better than sending them to a juvenile center for six months. People in Arar welcomed the ruling saying there are better ways to discipline people than sending them to jail.

40-year defiance of driving ban crashes

MAHD AL-DAHAB: In a country where driving is banned for women, this is an unusual story. A 75-year-old woman was seriously injured after the car she was driving was involved in a head on collision with another car driven by an Egyptian man in the Mahd Al-Dahab area, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported. The woman was out shopping in the early hours of the morning when the crash happened. Officials said the woman suffered mild injuries and was trapped inside her car. Police freed her with the help of local people. According to police, the old woman is a widow and lives alone with her daughters. She does not have any sons. She has been driving for over 40 years and drives her daughters to and from school.
