MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Legislature Assembly yesterday witnessed noisy scenes with the opposition Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (SS-BJP) leaders demanding the resignation of Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Rana Jagjitsinh Patil over the arrest of Padmasinh Patil.
Padmasinh, senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and newly elected member of Parliament from Osmanabad district in the state, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday on charges of murdering state Congress party leader Pawan Raje Nimbalkar, also his cousin and political rival, in Navin Mumbai in 2006.
Opposition members disrupted the House proceedings demanding the immediate resignation of Rana and state Home Minister Jayant Patil.
As chaos prevailed, Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar was forced to adjourn the House for 20 minutes.
As soon as the proceedings started in morning, Sena leader Ramdas Kadam moved an adjournment motion relating to the arrest of Padmasinh.
