MAKKAH: Police arrested yesterday a Saudi man in his 30s who obtained a fake identity from the Department of Civil Affairs for an African illegal resident claiming the woman was his sister. The woman was also arrested for being in the country illegally.
Police say the man stole the identity of his dead sister (for whom he did not obtain a death certificate) and used the legal system to assign her identity to the immigrant woman.
The man then started an extramarital affair with the woman though she posed as his blood relative.
The relationship continued even after the man took SR25,000 in dowry from a Saudi man who secretly married the woman.
The Saudi became suspicious of the relationship when he found the man on more than one occasion in the woman’s apartment late at night.
The man was caught after the husband asked his friend to pretend to be interested in marrying the woman. The woman, hoping to keep the dowry this time, told the man the truth in an attempt to break out of her secret marriage and escape from the entire ordeal.
The husband then went to the police, who arrested the man and the African woman.
