JEDDAH: Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, who was appointed deputy commander of the National Guard on Sunday, said he would continue his efforts to further strengthen the National Guard in all areas.
Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency, he thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Sultan for vesting their confidence in him. “I deem this appointment as a medal of honor conferred upon me,” the prince said, adding that it would encourage him to put greater efforts in the service of the nation.
King Abdullah issued a decree on Sunday appointing Prince Miteb as the National Guard’s deputy commander for executive affairs in the rank of a minister.
Prince Miteb, who retired from active military service with the appointment, noted King Abdullah’s efforts in making the National Guard a powerful military and cultural organization, which has contributed greatly toward the Kingdom’s development in various sectors.
Meanwhile, Prince Miteb received a number of senior National Guard commanders and officers who came to congratulate him on the new appointment.
Prince Miteb was born in Riyadh. After completing preliminary and secondary education in Riyadh and Jeddah, he joined the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, Britain. He later held several important positions at the National Guard.
He was chairman of the committee that was assigned to prepare the curriculum for King Khaled Military Academy, which was established in 1982. He was later appointed commander of the college.
After reaching the rank of brigadier, he joined the College of Command and Staff in Riyadh and obtained a master’s degree in military sciences. On Dec. 21, 2000, he was promoted as assistant commander of the National Guard for military affairs.
Prince Miteb has played the key role in organizing the annual Heritage and Culture Festival in Janadriya since it started in 1985.
