JAZAN: Police arrested a Yemeni smuggler who is accused of attempting to smuggle 50 kg of hashish into the Kingdom.

Police received a tip-off from an informant about the smuggling attempt and began monitoring the suspect as he crossed the border. Police believe the man was on his way to Jeddah.

He tried to escape when he noticed police following him but was involved in an accident as he tried to flee.

Police transferred the smuggler to Sabya General Hospital for treatment after he sustained injuries during the crash and seized the hashish in his possession.

Col. Awad Al-Qahtani, official spokesman for Jazan police, said the smuggler would be prosecuted. Trafficking drugs into the Kingdom is a capital crime.

Security authorities in Jazan regularly report foiled attempts to smuggle drugs and weapons across the Kingdom’s porous border with Yemen.
