RIYADH: Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice captured a Pakistani man they say smuggled a Saudi woman from Jeddah to Riyadh, forcing her to live with him for five years until his capture. According to yesterday’s Al-Riyadh daily, commission members stopped the man to lecture him about prayers. When they searched the man’s phone they found pictures of the woman. After questioning, the man allegedly confessed to his crime. When the commission searched the man’s residence they found the woman, as well as drugs and alcohol. The man and the woman were handed over to police for further investigation.
Lightning claims two in one day
JAZAN: Two people died in separate lightning strikes in the southwestern region of the country, parts of which have experienced thunderstorms in recent days, according to local press reports. The first fatality was a Yemeni illegal resident that was pronounced dead at Samta General Hospital. The second fatality was a 16-year-old Saudi girl who was struck while stabling her family’s goatherd. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the girl to no avail.
Two die on way to wedding
MAHD AL-DAHAB: Two young Saudis died in a car accident when they were on their way to Mahd Al-Dahab, 250 kilometers southeast of Madinah. The two men crashed head on with a truck and died instantly. The bodies were taken by rescue workers and were buried a few hours later. Wedding guests attended the funeral prayer.
