JEDDAH: Reem and Jasim, the two Qatari children who have been missing for more than 45 days after performing Umrah with their mother, were expected to arrive in Doha today, according to their father Muhamamd Jasim Fakhro. The two children were found in Onaiza, Qasim province on Tuesday.
Director of Qasim police, Maj. Gen. Abdul Qadir Talha, told Arab News that both kids were doing well and were in good health. He added that investigations were still going on in their case.
“For this reason, it is not possible to say everything about their case at the moment,” he said.
The case of the two missing Qatari children was blown up by the electronic and print media in the Gulf region, which quoted the claims of their father that his kids were kidnapped in the Grand Mosque in Makkah after differences between him and his divorced wife.
The father alleged that he had reported the matter to the Makkah police who, in turn, denied any knowledge of two Qatari children going missing in the Haram area.
According to the Makkah police, the father left for Qatar, leaving his wife and two kids behind in Makkah. The police said the mother later left the holy city.
Spokesman of the Makkah police, Major Zaki Al-Rihaili, said the two kids left Makkah in the company of their aunt, who lives in Qasim.
The spokesman urged the media to be accurate in its reports and to obtain information from the proper sources.
Arab News called the father on his mobile phone in Qatar and asked him why he left for his home country leaving his two kids behind and why he waited for more than a month before reporting the matter to the police.
He answered that he was waiting for the mother to show up with the kids whom she had hidden. He said he had to leave to Qatar because of family commitments. He said he waited for a long time before taking the matter to the police because their mother was sick.
“I have not reported the case of my missing kids to the Makkah police, but to the authorities in Qatar,” he said. He thanked Allah that his two kids were found and said the mother hid them with her sister. “I expect my kids to arrive in Doha today,” he said.
