JEDDAH: There has been a marked increase in the number of online orders placed by Saudis for goods in shops in the United States over the past three months, according to an official of Saudi Post. Saudi Post recently launched a service called My Address in America, for Saudi online shoppers from stores in the United States.
“Now there has been a more than 200 percent increase in the number of Saudi customers seeking the e-shopping service from the USA since the service began in April,” Vice President of Saudi Post for mail operations Sami Al-Owaidi told Arab News.
The service is available to all Wasel subscribers for whom the post provides a personal address for use in the US. Any purchases bought online in the US and delivered to this address will be shipped directly to the subscriber’s Wasel address in the Kingdom, Al-Owaidi said.
Wasel is a postal service that delivers items to the homes of citizens and residents and is offered with the help of geographic information systems (GIS).
At the time of purchase from a store in US, the customer gives his postal address in the US. When the shipment arrives at his address in the US, it is reshipped to his Wasel address in KSA. Before shipping, the customer must pay all the shipping fees which is issued as a bill and sent to the customer’s mobile number to be paid electronically. The official said the electronic service had been increasing in popularity although Saudi Post had not launched any promotions.
