TAIF: The residents here have appealed to Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and all concerned government organs to step in and resolve the acute problem of water shortage they have been suffering for a long time.
Ramadan is approaching and things will worsen if the shortage continues, citizens said. They complained that their problem has continued for many years and has been made worse by the increase of the price of water tanks — SR600 per truck delivery.
The inhabitants of Zalam district in Taif believe that they are the most affected. “Our houses have remained without a single drop of water for many days,” said Zalam resident Muhammad Al-Otaibi. “We are unable to do anything. We cannot obtain water from our taps. We cannot afford the price of water-truck delivery.”
Al-Otaibi also said that even at the high prices, often there are no truck available for delivery and that it is almost impossible for women to approach the delivery center to elbow their way through throngs of men to obtain the tickets to arrange water delivery. “They cannot compete with men at the water pumping stations where tickets for water trucks are sold,” he said.
