MAKKAH: Haj Minister Fouad Al-Farsy on Saturday urged Tawafa organizations to take necessary precautionary measures against the spread of swine flu among their pilgrims during the coming Haj season. Speaking to reporters while paying an inspection tour of the Tawafa Establishment for Iranian Pilgrims, he stressed the importance of providing intensive health awareness programs for pilgrims.
He said the Haj Ministry had not received any new proposals from the Ministry of Health with regard to swine flu pandemic.
Al-Farsy praised the efforts of Tawafa organizations in the service of their pilgrims in order to help them perform their religious rituals comfortably.
“Tawafa establishments have the technical know-how and awareness in order to apply modern information technology,” the minister said, adding that it would facilitate matters of pilgrims.
Al-Farsy also visited the United Zamazima Office as well as the General Car Syndicate that supplies buses required for the transportation of pilgrims.
In a related development, Ezzat Sindi, director of crisis management at the Makkah municipality, said the preventive health care program in Makkah province was going as planned.
He said the program would be in its full swing just before the advent of Ramadan, when millions of faithful from within and outside Saudi Arabia visit the Grand Mosque for Umrah and prayers.
Sindi said the health department in Makkah was continuing its campaign to destroy mosquitoes that carry dengue fever virus and create a healthy atmosphere for pilgrims coming for Umrah during Ramadan.
