DUBAI: An eight-story building that was nearly competed collapsed in Dubai on Sunday, police sources said.
"A building on Al-Ittihad Road next to the Ramada Continental Hotel in Deira, collapsed and police are investigating. So far there are no reports of any injuries," said Col. Ahmed Al Sayegh, deputy director of Dubai Civil Defense.
Police sources said there were around 21 workers and one site engineer in the building at the time of the collapse, but all were able to escape the crash. Workers started fleeing the building after cracks began appearing on the walls. The building collapsed shortly after, police said.
Police have cordoned off the surrounding area. Half the building remains standing and there are concerns that this part too may collapse. Police said they were searching the rubble with imaging cameras and sniffer dogs.
