JUBA, Sudan: Representatives from Sudan’s north and south have agreed to implement several disputed or neglected elements of a 2005 peace deal that ended more than two decades of fighting, a US special envoy said on Wednesday. Scott Gration, the US special envoy to Sudan, said the new agreement was the result of months of work discussing sticking points in the deal that included the long-delayed demarcation of the north-south border and security issues. But tensions persist between the two sides as Sudan prepares for presidential, parliamentarian and other elections in 2010, followed by a referendum on southern secession in 2011.
