MADINAH: Need a spell to make your first wife love you and your second wife divorce you? Too bad. Even if you had the SR25,000 that the Madinah sorcerer demanded for his services, the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice got to him first. According to Bandar Al-Robaish, the spokesman for the religious police in Madinah, an Arab expatriate was arrested for peddling the black arts on the streets of this holy city. Furthermore, the man’s sponsor was also detained for being the wizard’s marketing executive. According to the report published in the Arabic press on Tuesday, the men were busted as they were trying to sell a spell to a man that would get his second wife out of the house and his first wife deeply enamored with him.

Youths blab online, get arrested

QASSIM: Saudi Arabia has come a long way. Ten years ago few people had camera phones, much less the Internet. Today Saudis can watch YouTube while they update their blogs and Twitter about a conversation they had over Skype. But with this technology, laws have had to be put into place; namely, laws against cyber crimes, including using the Internet to bully, harm reputations or make false allegations. Saudi youths from this central province learned the hard way that you can’t just write whatever you want online about other people. Local media reports said the one of the young men was arrested for posting an article he wrote making slanderous allegations about a Saudi official. The other man was arrested for expressing support for the other guy’s comments.
