RIYADH: The Kingdom and India will discuss labor issues at the forthcoming meeting of the Indo-Saudi Joint Commission that will be held here on Oct. 31, the Indian Embassy announced here on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press briefing held to outline the welfare activities for the country’s 1.8 million expatriate workers, Rajeev Shahare, deputy chief of mission at the Indian Embassy, told newsmen Tuesday that the meeting will discuss a wide range of labor-related issues, including an introduction of a labor agreement between the employer and the employee.
“The Embassy has been taking up at high level the case for setting up of a mechanism, including signing of an appropriate agreement, to resolve labor matters between India and Saudi Arabia,” he said.
“The number of labor complaints received in the embassy run into thousands every year.”
The last meeting of the commission was held in New Delhi in 2007.
