JEDDAH: Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA) will organize a seven-a-side tournament in celebration of the Saudi National Day on Oct. 2.
During the JCA executive committee last Wednesday, Haroon Abdullah Bin Mehfooz, secretary-administration of the association who had played first class cricket in Hyderabad and the most successful captain of the Jeddah Intercity tournaments and the champion of champions Saudi Milk and the Kanoo cricket club, was unanimously nominated as the chief coordinator for the Saudi National Day event.
Mehfooz said all clubs which had registered on Sept. 23 2008 when JCA was founded are eligible for the seven-a-side tournament as well as those which participated in the recently concluded Jotun & Otex Cups in addition to the new entries.
He said 36 teams have so far responded for the new season from the original registered clubs and Bupa C.C. and the Deccan Knights were the first and second to register with JCA as new clubs.
Mohammad Imran Ullah, captain of Bupa team, is very excited and eager to participate in the forthcoming league matches and the Saudi National Day festival matches. Members of the team are: Mohammed Imran Ullah, team captain; Mohammed Ghiyas Uddin, Mohammed Faheem Qureshi,, Ameen Abdul Salam, Syed Shakeel, Rifas,Vasim Sheikh, Abdulla Abdul Hameed, Haris Abdul HameedNaofel, Imran Deshmukh, Salih Kavote, Ajmal Nazeer and Mohiuddin Ahmed.
Deccan Knights, as the name suggests, have most of their players hailing from Hyderabad (Deccan), India. Nevertheless, the unity in diversity is reflected by the fact that a few of its players and the bench strength come from other cities and even countries.
Though Deccan Knights are the latest addition to the JCA roster their players have been playing the game with various teams over the past many years while working in different cities of the Kingdom. Deccan Knights hold promise to be one of the most dominant teams in JCA. The team has done reasonably well in recently concluded local tournaments and is now confident of graduating to the big league, said Syed Meer, the team manager and binding force at Deccan Knights.
Besides Meer the other members of the team are Syed Sameen Qadri (secretary),Mohammed Zia Ahmed (captain),Syed Ghouse (vice-captain), Mohammed Umar Swadi, Mohammed Jawad, Mohammed Abdul Malik Shahid,Mohammed Afroz Ali, Syed Imran, Mohammed Talib, Shahid Mehmood, Mohammed Sami,Mohammed Salman Siddiqui,Waheed Anjum,Mohammed Mohsin, Syed Irfan, Khaja Siraj uddin and Mohammed Maqbool.
