JEDDAH: Girls won top prizes in a Qur’an memorization contest organized by Malarvadi Balasangam at Jeddah’s Dauha Al-Uloom School here on Thursday.
Shajeeha Yasmin won the first place in the competition held for kids while Ayisha Wafa won in the sub-junior group and Hanim Mohammed Rizwan won in the junior category.
The second and third prize winners were: Mohammed Fayis and Rayan (kids); Ammar A. Jaleel and Mohammed Basith (both second); Ahmed Fawzi (sub junior); and Majid Abdul Shukoor and Mohammed Nafi (junior).
Abdul Shukoor Ali emceed the event, urging children not only to memorize the chapters and verses of the Qur’an but also to learn their meaning and live according to the holy book’s teachings.
A total of 44 students participated in the contests. The judges were: Saidalavi, Faseela, Ramla, Rahmath, Mumthaz, Ashiq, Ridwan, Bushra and Shahida. Ajmal Abdul Ghafour was the program coordinator.
