JEDDAH: The General Directorate of Prisons and a local charity, Basmat Taghier (Imprint of Change), jointly organized on Sunday an Eid party for women inmates and their children.

Over 90 children and their mothers attended the event. The children included those who are in prison with their mothers and others at shelter homes. The event included puppet shows and competitions. Gifts were distributed to attendees.

Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Ghamdi, director general of Jeddah prisons, told Arab News that the Kingdom’s prison authority was keen that all women prisoners and their children attend the party, which was held at Briman Prison in a happy and joyous atmosphere.

“Relatives and friends of inmates in all of Jeddah’s prisons were allowed to visit for three consecutive days to mark Eid Al-Fitr,” he said, adding that gifts were also distributed to prisoners and their visitors. Al-Ghamdi stressed that the Directorate General of Prisons was keen to provide children with a festive atmosphere and that women social workers also participated in the event.

“Educational, health and social services are provided to the children of women inmates by specialized social workers, psychiatrists and teachers,” he said, adding that the directorate is keen to provide children with food, clothes and other services.

Halima Muhammad, head of Basmat Taghier, said 92 boys and girls and their mothers attended the Eid celebrations, which consisted of a number of entertainment programs, puppet shows, painting competitions and other activities. “The organization and the Directorate General of Prisons were keen to make the children happy in these blessed days,” she said, adding that the organization is a voluntary organization founded by Khaled Fatani’s establishment.
