GAZA CITY: Fatah movement on Tuesday said that it welcomed any step that would contribute to reaching a reconciliation agreement and unity among Palestinians.

Abdullah Abu Samhadna, a Fatah senior official based in Gaza, told reporters "the words must be accompanied by deeds."

Abu Samhadna, who was commenting on the statements of Hamas' exiled leader Khaled Meshaal in Cairo on Monday, said the Palestinians are desperate to end the divisions in order to confront challenges.

He hoped that the upcoming round of talks due to be held next month in Cairo would culminate into the signing of a reconciliation agreement and open the way for the unity of the Palestinian factions.

On Monday, Meshaal said in Cairo: "We extend our hands to our brothers in Fatah movement and the rest of the Palestinian factions to counter the Israeli enemy."
