RIYADH: In the line with Rezidor Hotel Group Responsible Business programme, which is the core of the company’s social, cultural and environmental concern as well as creating positive impact on humanitarian deeds, Radisson Blu Hotel, Riyadh, joined the worldwide celebration of the 6th Annual Responsible Business Action Month by organizing a charity event for 60 orphan children from Dar Social Education for Boys with the support of the Ministry of Social Affairs during Ramadan. The less fortunate children were invited for iftar.

Al Faisaliah brings a taste of Canada

RIYADH: The Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel is introducing a month long Canadian food festival. The festival will be open for dinner from Oct. 5-15 at the hotel’s Cristal restaurant. Il Terrazzo restaurant will feature Canadian meats and seafood daily for dinner throughout October. La Brasserie restaurant will offer a Canadian night every Wednesday, and Friday Brunch will reflect the Canadian theme throughout the month. The Canadian culinary extravaganza is described as the first of its kind in the Kingdom and gives Riyadh residents and visitors a chance to experience a close encounter with Canadian cuisine and culture. Canadian Ambassador David Chatterson and other diplomats, and senior representatives from the hotel, and Wahid Kandil, CEO of Prairie Halal Foods Co, the main sponsor of the event, will be present along with two top chefs from Canada’s culinary world.

Gulf Air increases baggage allowance

MANAMA: Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air is to increase its free checked baggage allowance in all three classes, giving it one of the most generous baggage allowance policies of all the major carriers worldwide. The new baggage policy will enter into force from Oct. 1. Gulf Air First, Business and Economy baggage allowances will all increase by 10 kg taking them to 50 kg, 40 kg and 30 kg respectively. The new allowance is 10 kg more than the standard allowance provided by most airlines worldwide. Gold and Silver members of the airline’s frequent flyer program are also entitled to an additional baggage allowance of 15 kg for silver members and 20 kg for gold card members.

Ramada hotels participate in Leisure Moscow Exhibition

DUBAI: Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman and Ramada Downtown Burj Dubai are participating in Leisure Moscow Exhibition, a fair that has established itself as the leading global international autumn event for the tourism industry in Russia and the CIS. According to Shehab Lotfi, general manager, Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman, “The exhibition is very important for us as it provides all the information regarding exotic destinations, tour operators, booking systems, carriers, hotels and professional suppliers who can tailor make the needs of its customers.”

Qatar Airways flies above the credit crunch

DOHA: Qatar Airways has secured two innovative financing deals worth a total of $700 million for the purchase of four new Boeing 777 aircraft due for delivery over the next few months. A $350 million finance lease deal to purchase two new Boeing 777 aircraft — both a 777-300ER and a 777-200LR version — followed an agreement with five leading international banks. One Boeing 777-300 Extended Range aircraft is scheduled for delivery this month and one 777-200 Long Range version is due to be delivered in November 2009. Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said: “In these difficult times for the banking sector, I am very pleased to see this group of experienced aviation banks regrouping to support Qatar Airways once again.”
