JEDDAH: The Al-Ahli club administration has suspended footballer Ibrahim Hazzazi for one month and relieved of his duties as team captain after he traveled abroad to Egypt without the approval of the club management.
The player will not play in future matches with Ahli until the suspension period is over. The management also fined the player of undisclosed amount.
Ahli, meantime, renewed the contract of Tayseer Al-Jasim, national team player and midfielder, for four more years. The club did not disclose the financial terms of the contract but it was widely believed to be a huge amount of money.
Also, Ahli defender Waleed Abdurabbu’s contract was extended to three years for SR3 million.
But Abdurabbu had to sit out the first year of his contract and will most probably play for Al-Nasr club after he failed to reach agreement with Ahli coach Gustavo Alfaro. Alfaro refused to take Abdurabbu in after he created problems with his teammates during training before the football season.
In an interview with a local daily, he said that Abdurabbu did not commit to his task as a professional player. He created two problems. The first one he was forgiven but he came and repeated the same problem again. He said, “He acted as if he owns the club. He does not have the right to ask for other players to leave the team and it is not his business to interfere in our work.
He demanded that Ahli goalkeeper Mansour Al-Najie leave the club. I told him to leave and we will not be sorry over you.”
