RIYADH: Samsung Saudi Arabia Ltd., with high-end technology and diverse experience, has emerged as a total engineering solution provider, currently expanding its operation and scouting for business in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The company, which is handling six projects valued at $3.9 billion in Saudi Arabia, is also gearing itself to enter into desalination, power and water sectors with a new vision and world-class technology.
Kyung Bae Choi, managing director of Samsung Saudi Arabia Ltd., in an interview with Arab News, pointed out that Samsung Engineering continuously armed itself with the power and skill to face the ever-changing needs of the clients and the market. Saudi Arabia, he said, was the “core market” and hence the huge investment projects such as “IK EPC Office” and “Naffora Techno Valley” are progressing according to plan despite the global recession. He noted that all preparations had been made to start work on Techno Valley project in Oct. 2009.
The $100 million Naffora Techno Valley Project, which will be funded by Samsung, will be completed in May, 2011. This multi-functional techno valley complex will have on its premises the IK EPC Headquarters, safety training center, R&D center and several other facilities. Samsung, he said, is quite sure that this Naffora project will be an attractive landmark not only in Jubail, but in the Kingdom as a whole. As far as IK EPC organization in Alkhobar is concerned, he said that this was being established on the initiative of Saudi Aramco. We will make “IK EPC Office” as the global EPC center, as part of our long-term commitment to meet Saudi Arabia’s sustainability needs through job creation and transfer of valuable knowledge, while providing additional project support to clients.
Referring to the performance of Samsung, Choi said that the year 2008 had been “unique and meaningful to Samsung.” The company achieved early completion of four major projects with the satisfaction of the clients in terms of safety and quality despite constraining factors at the booming global plant construction market in the region. “We are also very proud that the Tasnee ethylene plant was completed a few months earlier, enhancing Samsung’s reputation even more,” he added. “Also, Ibn Zahr PP-III Project, one of our prestigious projects, which was completed in the year 2008, was awarded ‘Best Project in Year 2008’ from SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corp.),” said Samsung chief.
Spelling out the philosophy behind the success of Samsung, he said that “the mission was to use our human resources and high technology to create superior products in order to make a better society.” He said, “Combined with our utmost priority in quality, safety and green management, Samsung Engineering delivers the most economic and optimal EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) services in the shortest time frame to clients.”
In fact, Samsung Engineering holds the track record for delivering about 1,700 projects at home and abroad during 39 years of its history. Choi said that there was no doubt that the key factor of our strength was “Prepared Human Capital.”
