RIYADH: Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah announced on Saturday the King Abdullah Medical City will start operations within two months.
The minister made the announcement yesterday at the first meeting of the Medical Cities and Specialized Hospitals Board, which acts as the supreme directing body for these establishments. The medical facilities, which are all tertiary health care institutions, include King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh and King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam.
Al-Rabeeah explained the medical city, built on 750,000 square meters, is the first of the three phases that have been planned by the ministry.
“It will have state-of-the art facilities and will be the best medical city in the Kingdom,” the minister said, pointing out that it would serve the millions of Haj and Umrah pilgrims who visit the holy city of Makkah every year. He added services offered by the medical cities and specialized hospitals that come under the jurisdiction of the ministry will be coordinated through the board to achieve optimum results and to avoid duplication of work.
