Mayors meet to exchange expertise

JEDDAH: Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh told mayors of Saudi cities to make use of the best practices of their counterparts in other Saudi cities.

Speaking at a workshop that focused on best practices in providing services, Fakieh said the program was also aimed at exchanging expertise.

Khaled Oqail, deputy mayor of Jeddah, said the workshop included 12 lectures in which each mayoralty presented its best practices in providing various services to the public.

They included the electronic issuance of licenses for trade shops and experience in automatic transfer of data related to land distribution to the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.

The workshop also focused on experience in forcing hotels, restaurants and marketing centers to contract specialized companies to implement their computer systems. Taif municipality made a presentation on collecting revenues while Madinah municipality delivered a presentation on its experience in its automatic street lighting system.

Representatives from the municipalities of Makkah, Madinah, the Eastern Province and Taif took part in the workshop and made a visual presentation of their achievements.

The Eastern Province mayoralty gave a presentation of its experience in the operation and maintenance of roads.

Khaled Al-Suwaidan, assistant director of operation and maintenance at Eastern Province Mayoralty, said his organization was following a logical system in maintaining roads.
